Anzac Day in London Anzac day commemorates April 5th 1915 , when the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps went ashore under heavy fire in a cove of the Gallipole Peninsular during the attack on the dardanelles in World War 1 . Today wreaths were laid on the Cenotaph , in Whitehall , London by Australian and New Zealand High Commisioners and by Sir Beauvoir de Lisle , representing the Twenty Ninth Division Association Left to right Sir Thomas White , Ausralian High Commisioner , Sir Frederick Doidge , New Zealand High Commisioner , General Freyberg and General Sir Beauvoir de Lisle , seen at the Cenotaph 25th April 1954
