Bach Bow will aid interpretation of Musical Masters at Edinburgh Festival . When Emil Talmanyi , the Danish violin virtuoso plays Bach's music in Edinburgh during the Festival on 22nd August , he will use the old type of curved bow, which was used in Bach's day . This type permits the player to produce polyphonic melody by touching all the strings at once. Impossible with the modern bow, and therefore it will interpret Bach's music as he wrote it . Talmanyi had the bow specially made for him by a Danish violin maker , Arne Hjorth. Photo shows ; Emil Telmanyi photographed playing with his " Bach bow " . 11 May 1950
