State opening of Parliament. The King, accompanied by the Queen, drove in state this morning (Tuesday), from Buckingham Palace to the House of Lords for the opening of Parliament. Immediately behind the King in the procession, and taking part in the ceremony for the first time, drove Princess Elizabeth in her own landau. A Guard of Honour of the Brigade of Guards is mounted in the quadrangle of the Palace, and the six carriages taking part in the procession had a sovereign's escort of the Household Cavalry. A salute of 41 guns was fired by the Royal Horse Artillery in St James's Park, and troops lined the route of the procession. Photo shows, the State Coach in which the King and Queen drove to the Houses Of Parliament, seen passing Horse Guards Parade, this morning (Tuesday). 21 October 1947
