Bristol fashion. Mr Alfred Heal, of St Werburgh's, Bristol is a man who looks as though he has a job for life. He's spent every working day for the past nine years as a member of the team of painters whose job it is to keep Clifton Suspension Bridge, spanning the Avon Gorge, 'shipshape and Bristol fashion'. Four tons of paint and 22 cwt, of tar required annually for the job, and when the painters have completed their task, it's time to go back to the other end and start all over again. Photo shows, Mr Alfred Heal, perched on one of the chains 360 feet above the Portway of Clifton Suspension Bridge, helping to keep the great Bridge spick and span. 20 October 1947
