Evidence was given at the Jersey inquest yesterday on Lt Cmdr W.D."Frosty" Winterbottom (pictured), who died the day after he was to have been married, that analysis showed that he had taken an overdose of sleeping draught as large as the largest fatal dose ever recorded by Dr Roche Lynch, the Home Office analyst. A verdict was recorded that death was due to pneumonia, the result of this overdose. The lieutenant would have been married to Miss Emily O'Keefe, a doctor's widow and manageress of the Ritz hotel, was found in a state of coma after a wedding eve celebration. 9 October 1947
