Another 200 drivers at Smithfield meat market today joined 44 others who struck on Friday in sympathy with four men who were suspended when they refused to work in another depot of the market. While work on the market virtually stopped the drivers met on a bombed site in Bartholomew close, nearby and following the meeting, Mr E J Stephens's, chairman of the driver section of the Transport and Gen Workers Union, announced the spread of sympathy strikes tonight in a hall can be found, there will be a longer meeting to discuss the situation.
