Britain's Alexander beats to Russians at chess tournament. C H, OD Alexander of Great Britain (pictured here) B both the Soviet chess grandmaster is in the Premier tournament of the international chess Congress at Hastings, Sussex, today (Friday). He forced A Tolush, champion of Leningrad, to resign after three hours 20 minutes and 28 moves. Then he resumed his marathon match with David Bronstein, who resigned after 14 hours play and 120 moves. The results of this match, which had been adjourned five times in the past three days, gives Alexander a score of 6 1/2 points with all his matches completed. He now leads in the tournament. Alexander, a former British champion, is a Foreign Office Official.. 8 January 1954
