Field Marshal Lord Montgomery presented his famous Australian sombrero hat to Mr JA Beasley, High Commissioner for Australia, at a ceremony at Australia house, London, today. The hat will be sent to the National War Memorial Museum at Canberra. The hat was given to Monty by the Australian leader, Gen Sir Leslie Morshead during the Western desert campaign when Monty found the sun too strong for him. He later abandoned it for his well-known beret. 21 August 1947
