This new picture taken today, shows Sir Eustace Missenden, general manager of southern railway, he was this year appointed one of the 12 members of the British tourist and holidays board. Now 61 years old, so Eustace's progress has been fairly rapid. In 1899 he entered the service of the old South Eastern as a junior at a wage of 2 s. 6d. per week. After a few years training in station work he became assistant to the London district traffic superintendent in 1914, and a few years later in 1920 succeeded his immediate superior. It was during the war that Sir Eustace probably has his busiest time. For it was at the beginning of the war that he was appointed to his present position making him responsible for the southern railways fast network which carried troops, stores and equipment supports of embarkation. So Eustace Missenden received his knighthood in 1944. 19 August 1947
