The BOAR direct service to South Africa, which has been naed Springbok, was inaugurated on Saturday, 10 November in the presence of Lord Winster, (the Minister for Civil Aviation) and Lord Knollys, Chairman of Boar. A Avro York aircraft took off from Hurn airport near Bournemouth at 5pm, GMT on the first Springbok Service mail and passenger flight to Johannesburg. Photo shows, Flight Engineer E O Draper, Flight Engineer with No2 Line, Boar, who was a member of the Avro York aircraft that flew from Hurn, near Bournemouth, to Johannesburgonthe initial flight of the Springbok Service. Flt Engineer Draper served during the war in Boeings on the BOAR service to USA and later made special flights in Avro York aircraft.. 11 November 1945
