For the first time since 1940, racing was resumed at London's own racecourse, Alexandra Park, known to thousands of racegoers as "Ally Pally" today. A record crowd watched Gordon Richards, riding in his usual fine form, come home on two winners in the juvenile Selling Plate and the London Cup. Picture shows: The finish of the London Cup Handicap showing the Chiseller coming up to the post to win with Banco coming on the inside three-quarter length away for second place, at Alexandra Park today. 5 July 1947
