Three Metropolitan Police horses who served throughout the London blitz with conspicuous coolness and devotion to duty were honoured today when at a ceremony in the Cockpit, Hyde park, they became the fist horses ever to hold the "Animals V.C" the Dickin Medal awarded by the P.D.S.A Aliied Forces Mascot Club. Twenty police trumpeters mounted on grey chargers heralded Regal, Olga and Upstart as, through Police Commissioner Sir Harold Scott, KCB, CBE, they were decorated by Major General J.C.O. Marriott, CB CVO, DSO, MC, COmmanding London District. All three horses showed great courage in the face of fire and explosion and went on with their jobs when bombs were raining on the capital. 17 June 1947
