The biggest press ever made in Britain capable of stamping out in one blow the entire side or top of the motor car body - was inspected by a party from Rootes Securities at Vickers Elswick Works, Newcastle. Picture shows: Sir William Rootes is shown a working model of the press by Sir Robert Micklem - chairman of Vickers Armstrong. This model was made by the apprentices in the Vickers apprentice engineer shop the Elswick works, Newcastle. 21 May 1947
