The Portsmouth team which will be competing in the Royal Navy Field gun display in the Royal tournament to be held at the Olympia on June 12, has been putting in some hard practice. Encouraged by their shipmates at HMS Excellent, members of the team hope to complete the exercise in record time. The particular display includes the hauling of gun and carriage up to a gap, dismantling the gun and crossing the gap with the aid of a derrick. On reaching the far side the gun is reassembled and holds to the finishing point. The team completing the exercise in the shortest time being the winner. 21 May 1947
