Britain's largest liner the Conard white star "Queen Elizabeth", was brought safely into her birth at Southampton shortly after 10 o'clock last night. Towed in by 7 tugs, the liner was ablaze with light as she came home. She was over 50 hours late, having spent 26 hours grounded on the brambles bank in the Solent and then delayed again by fork. All but her 800 tourist class passengers had been taken off the ship and brought ashore by tender. Then she docked her captain, 59-year-old Capt Charles M Ford, said "I take full responsibility is captain the the grounding of my ship." At the time of the occurrence the "Elizabeth" has already taken aboard the Trinity house pilots to help her in. 17 April 1947
