A powerful homemade bomb, consisting of 26 sticks of gelignite in a brown paper parcel, with signs of the fuse have been ignited, was found this morning in a cloakroom of Dover House, part of the colonial office in Whitehall. Had it exploded the entire building would have been wrecked. The discovery was made a few hours after the news that Dov Gruner and three other terrorists had been hanged in Palestine. Strict security measures were immediatley set into operation, other departments were ordered to search their premises, and all callers to Whitehall were interogated. 16 April 1947
