Further efforts by tugs to get teh Queen Elizabeth away from the Brambles shingle bank have failed, and preparations are being made for a new refloat attempt on tonights tide. The 620 first-class passengers have been taken ashore to Southampton and luggage and oil have been unloaded to lighten the giant liner. If the ship is not pulled clear tonight it is probable that it will be stuck on the bank for three days, when spring tides will be higher, and there is always the fanger that the liner may move forward and straddle a ridge in the sand where the liner could heel over or even or even break its back. 15 April 1947
