Firemen, aided by fire floats fought through most of yesterday's check the fire in the 22,424, ton blazing liner, "monocled they need" lying in Hebburn on Tyne drydock. The fire started in the early hours of the morning somewhere in the top deck 7 fanned by strong wind, flames quickly spread through the superstructure and down in the interior, eating up the state rooms and cabins. 25 March 1947
