South African scene. The Royal Car seen climbing the beautiful mountain overlooking Paarl on its way to the Mill Stream picnic site, where Their Majesties and the Princesses took morning tea today (Thursday). The town of Paarl, famous for its fruit growing, lies in the sheltered valley surrounded by the mountains of the Great Karroo. In the far distance can be seen Du Toit's Kloof Pass, a new road making a short cut over and through the mountains by road tunnel to Worcester, behind the distant range.
