Escort for their Majesties. A colourful escort was provided for the Royal Family when they cross the wide Zambezi River by Royal launch to visit Livingstone, Northern Rhodesia. This State Barge of the Barotse, with green and white painted sides, was used by Paramount Chief Imwiko escorting the Royal launch seen in the background (right). The barge was propelled by 40 paddlers and drummers on board beat out a Royal salute as the crossing was made. 19 April 1947
