'Queen' of the night. A nice study of the Cunard White Star Ocean giant 'Queen Mary' as work on her hull goes on in the King George V Graving Dock at Southampton. This picture, taken last night (Monday) gives a vivid impression of the immense proportions and sleek lines of Britain's second largest liner. A veteran of many thousands of ocean miles, carrying vast numbers of British, dominion and allied fighting men to the battlefront of the world, she is now undergoing reconversion to her original role as a luxury transatlantic liner. Soon she will set out, sumptuously appointed and glittering in bright new paint, to join her sister ship, the 'Queen Elizabeth', in maintaining Britain's high tradition in the North Atlantic.. 18 February 1947
