German forgeries of British 'Stamps'. Twenty nine travesties and forgeries of British 'stamps' realised ?2 today, tuesday, at Messrs Harmer's London Stamp Auctioneers. These were printed some time before D Day (1944) and the enemy circulated them as propaganda through agents in Switzerland and other neutral countries. Photo shows, as travesties, they underline the weird sense of humour of the Germans. In the representation of the 'Silver Jubilee Stamp' a portrait of Stalin replaced that of King George V and Stalin also appeared in place of the Queen on the 'Coronation stamp'. In each case the 'd; of 'ld' was formed by a hammer and sickle. The Star of David and the Russian Star were also prominent on most of the 'stamps'. 21 January 1947
