The evolution of British fashions through the last 600 years is displayed in an exhibition of dresses, fashion plates and drawings in the gallery of the Victoria and Albert Museum, Kensington - home of the "Britain Can Make It" exhibition. Picture shows a contrast in styles - Miss 1946, clad in slacks, admires a crinoline gown of 1860 on show in the exhibition. 24 October 1946
