Frogman new style. 68 years old former Paris barrister Monsieur Daniel P Causteau flaps is way down to the beach at Torquay, Devon, to demonstrate for the first time in Britain, a new lightweight diving outfit, the invention of his son, Lt Cmdr M Jacques Yves Cousteau. The suit, which comprises wet feet, a large mask and a container of compressed air strapped on the back and attached by a pipe to the mouth, enables the diver to remain under water for long periods with complete freedom of movement. In the Torquay demonstration father Cousteau stayed under for a modest nine minutes, but is inventor son, a state-based the warm waters of the Mediterranean for much longer periods, and is reached a depth of 257 feet without ill effect.
