Frogman new style. 68 years old former Paris barrister Monsieur Daniel P Causteau flaps is way down to the beach at Torquay, Devon, to demonstrate for the first time in Britain, a new lightweight diving outfit, the invention of his son, Lt Cmdr M Jacques Yves Cousteau. The suit, which comprises wet feet, a large mask and a container of compressed air strapped on the back and attached by a pipe to the mouth, enables the diver to remain under water for long periods with complete freedom of movement. In the Torquay demonstration father Cousteau stayed under for a modest nine minutes, but is inventor son, a state-based the warm waters of the Mediterranean for much longer periods, and is reached a depth of 257 feet without ill effect. Pressure of the sea is countered by an automatic air pressure control. It is understood that the Admiralty and the French Ministry of Marie have an interested eye on the Cousteau invention. 10 October 1946
