The end of 'HMS Iron Duke'. When Adml Jellicoe's flagship, the Iron Duke, reached the Clyde from Scapa Flow, the new graveyard for ships was inaugurated. The Iron Duke is to be reduced to scrap metal industries new shipbreaking establishment at Faslane on the Clyde, for ?,000,000 war emergency port. Bad weather, delayed the 34-year-old ship and she was 20 hours late dropping anchor in the Clyde. She took part in the 1916 Battle of Jutland, Was Bombed by the Germans at Scapa Flow in 1939, after breaching she was refloated to serve as a depot ship, flying the flag of the Adml Commanding Orkney and Shetland. Next month, an old enemy is to rejoin her in the shipbreaking yard, the German battleship 'Derfflinger' is to be towed inverted from Scapa Flow to be broken up in sight and sound of her 1914-1918 antagonist.
