Roman London comes to light. Many valuable clues to the life of Londoners of ancient days have been brought to light by a team of American, Dutch and British student archaeologists, who are excavating blitzed sites south of London bridge at Kings Head Yard, Borough High Street, and that Newcomen Street. The earliest levels have been reached at the former site where remains of a Roman house have been unearthed, together with a quantity of bones, pottery and bronze coins. More Roman relics dating back to Claudian period have been discovered in Borough High Street, and it is hoped that further investigation will lead to the finding of part of Stane Street, the Roman highway which led from Sussex to London. Photo shows, a general view of this scene of the excavation in Kings Head Yard, Borough High Street. 13 August 1946
