The blitzed journalists, church. The 'wedding cake' spire of St Bride's Church, Fleet Street. The church was 'blitzed' by Hitler's bombers, only the shell now remains. It is known as the 'Journalists Church' because the St, from which takes its name, is the penchant of newspaperman. St Bride (or Bridget) was Irish and a disciple of St Patrick. The church is situated near what was once a famous world named Bridewell. This name was given to the Kings Palace, which later became a house of correction forerring females and was situated near the church. Bride Lane, which passes the church was formerly a track leading to the well. 10 december 1948
