The end of 'Hermann' at Croydon. The 2,000lb bomb which fell in a South London timber yard in 1941 has had its fuse removed today (Thursday) when sappers completed their 196 days job of tunnelling and boring on the site. Known locally as 'Hermann', the unexploded bomb, now five years old, caused scores of people to evacuate their homes today and traffic was diverted over a wide area during the danger period. Photo shows, Lieut G A Frake descending into the tunnel to remove the bomb fuse.. 13 December 1945
