New airspeed record bid. The RAF's new bid to break the world airspeed record (606 mph, set up in November last by Group Captain Wilson) takes place next month, the newlyformed RAF High-Speed Flight (35 Men, Including Pilots, Fitters and mechanics) are practising at Tangmere, Sussex. Today (Friday) three pilots, Group Captain EM Donaldson, DSO, AFC, Squadron Leader W A Waterton, AFC, and Flight Lieutenant N F Duke, DSO, DFC, flew over the course in the 'Slave' Gloster Meteor aircraft. There are using for practice and their speeds averaged between 590 and 610 mph.
