For the first time since 1407 a lineal descendant of Sir Robert Knolleys presented a "Quittance Rose" to the Lord Mayor of London. Payment of the Rose, to take place on Midsummer Festival day of St John, was imposed Sir Robert Knolleys, close friend of the Black Prince, in 1397 to atone for an obstruction caused by his wife in errecting a passage 15 Ft high across the city Street. The ceremony took place this morning at the Mansion house, London.
