Brig Ralph Algar Bagnold, O.B.E., F.R.S., the well-known explorer and Miss Dorothy Plank were married at St Margaret's Rottingdean, Sussex. The brigadier was awarded the founders medal for the Royal Geographical Society in 1935 for exploration in the Libyan desert and is a world-famous authority on sand particles. Sir Roderick Jones gave Miss Plank away. Miss Plank has been secretary companion and close friend to Lady Jones, sister of brigadier's Bagnold for 15 years.
