700 troops due to sail for India and the far east walked off the S.S. Corfu at Southampton. They complain that the ship, a 14,000 ton carrying 2698 officers and men back to their overseas units is overcrowded, that washing and lavatory accommodation is inadequate, recreation facilities lacking. Bad messing arrangements and a shortage of blankets are also among the men's complaints. The area commander Brig. W.C. A. Hanney addressed the men on the Dockside in an effort to persuade them to go aboard without immediate success. Photo shows area commander Brig. W.C. A. Hanney addressing troops of the SS Corfu on the new dock at Southampton after leaving the ship. 8 April 1946
