Thousands Wait And Hope. A tremendous crowd jams Pennsylvania Station while waiting for Long Island trains tonight as New York's subways were struck for the second day. These persons have already purchased their tickets and are held in orderly and patient fashion by a heavy police force until time to board the train. What subway trains did manage to roll were choked with angry, pushing and griping straphangers. Service ranged from 25 to 70 perfect of normal on the 240 miles of tracks tunnelling New York. New York, USA. 12 October 1957.
