Quill Pays A Call On His Strikers. In the third avenue bus yard at 129th Street, striking drivers and mechanics listen to some words of comfort from their chief, Michael J. Quill, head of the Transport Workers Union. Idle buses are shown in background. Effects of the walkout of 8,200 bus company employees, launched one minute after midnight last night was not fully felt today because of the holiday, but tomorrow the walkout will hit more than three million persons who will be without normal transportation facilities. The strikers are demanding a 40-hour week from 48 hours with no loss in present pay. New York, USA. 01 January 1953.
