Jacqueline Comes Home. Four-year-old Jacqueline Ann Garston, who vanished from her Chester home 205 days ago, came ashore from the line Carnarvon Castle at Southampton to be reunited with her mother. The girl's father, Mr. John Garston, 32, brought her back to England from South Africa after a High Court writ of habeas corpus had been issued, ordering him to deliver up the child. When the child's mother, Mrs. Evelyn Garston, was granted a decree nisi last June she was given custody of the child. It was alleged that Mr. Garston, who was given permission to Jacqueline, took her away to South Africa by way of Spain. Photo shows: Mrs. Garston comes ashore from the Carnarvon Castle, followed by a detective carrying her daughter Jacqueline. Southampton, England. 23 December 1946.
