Police Hit Out At Rock And Roll Rioters. Truncheon-swinging police grab a youngster during 'Rock and Roll' riots in downtown Copenhagen which Police spokesmen declared were the worst "youth terror" so far. Several teenage boys and girls were reported to be severely beaten by policemen who took scores of the youngsters to police stations. Only the 16 worst troublemakers were detained however. The first clash, which later developed into riots around the Town Hall Square and the main thoroughfare "Stroeget", occured when a youthful crowd emerged from a cinema showing of "Rock Around the Clock" and met up with others leaving a nearby cinema showing "Crime in the Streets". Police spokesmen said they would take 'extraordinary measures' to prevent a reoccurence of the riots. Copenhagen, Denmark. 07 August 1957.
