The Senate enquiry into the election of Senator John H. Overton of Louisiana at New Orleans developed into a near riot when Edward Rightor, instigator of the investigation, withdrew with his client with the statement that they had lost confidence in the Senate subcommittee. Rightor was cited for contempt during the hearing, as Senator M. M. Logan of Kentucky (left), a member of the committee says, "our investigator has been of no help to us, he has given us no names or witnesses." Chief Investigator John G. Holland dramatically slaps his briefcase on the rostrum, saying it is stuffed with evidence and names of witnesses the Senate committee never even looked at within the year. 16 November 1933
