Successor to Kishi. A portrait just received in London of Hayato Ikeda, aged 60, son of a rice winemaker, who was today elected president of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic party, in succession to Japanese Prime Minister Nobusuke Kishi. He is certain to become the next prime minister of Japan, and his election guaranteed that the country would retain its strong pro-Western policies as Mr Ikeda was expected to make few, if any, changes in the course, followed by his predecessor. Premier Kishi, was stabbed in the leg and seriously wounded today, shortly after the convention of his party at which Mr Ikeda was chosen as his successor. 14. July 1960
