Inonu at Turkey's ' temporary 'Parliament. Former President Ismet Inonu (right) virtual leader of the Turkish Republican People's party, applauds during the opening here on 6 January of Turkey's new House of Representatives, planned to serve as a 'temporary' Parliament until the holding general elections. Mr Inonu, an opponent of former premier Adnan Menderes, now on trial for his life, had a great reception as he entered the chamber. The House of Representatives will act, jointly with the National Unity Committee, the supreme military body which seized power last May, as a legislated and constituent assembly. It is bound by law to transfer power to a civilian administration elected by universal suffrage by 29 October. 8 January 1961
