The controversy at Pavia centred around the design prepared for the Cathedral by Cristoforo Rocchi.. Rocchi copied the Byzantine design of centre Sophia in Constantinople, built A.D. 532-7 and shown here in a drawing by Giuliano da Sangallo, architect to Lorenzo de' Medici.
