The first transport aeroplane to be built entirely of stainless steel has been ordered by the U.S. Navy for fright carriages between Fleet bases. Known as the "Conestogar" the new aircraft is a high wing monoplane with a wingspan of 100 feet, is powered by two Pratt and Whitney engines and has a loading capacity which varies from an ambulance to 2 jeeps, 24 paratroops or 24 structure cases. 16 May 1944
