Selfdestruction of the cruiser "San Giorno" at Tobruk on 21 January 1941. The old ship, no longer used for naval fighting, was destined for coastal and anti-aircraft defence of the African port. She resisted the enemy attacked for eight months, until Archibald Wavell's English troops breaking through the front at Sidi el Barrani, invaded Cirenaica. She had shot down 27 enemy planes, plus that of Italo Balbo, who was caught in the fire and had not signalled in time.
