Following the negotiations carried out by General Giraud with the concurrence of the British government, the French warships under the command of Admiral Godfrey laid up at Alexandria, have decided to join the forces of the Allies. The force consists of the old battleship "Lorraine", the heavy cruisers "Suffren", "Duquesne" and "Tourville"; the light cruiser "Duguay-Trouin", the destroyers "Fortune", "Basque" and "Forbin" and the submarine "Protes". Of the original crew numbering 6000 about 1500 remain, the rest having been repatriated at their request in 1940. Photograph shows: The French cruiser "Duquesne" in Alexandria Harbour. 3 June 1943
