The wreckage of Belgian driver Mauro Bianchi's Alpine Renault had lost a wheel and crashed in flames during the gruelling 24 hour Le Mans Race here 29 September 1968 . Mauro was taken to hospital with burns on the hands and face . The race was won by his brother , Lucien and co-driver Pedro Rodriguez driving a British built , American powered Ford sports car . 1 October 1968
