Chrisp Street Market moves to new site . The street market in Poplar , London , which has been going in Chrisp Street for some 70 - 80 years , has been moved to a new site in the Lansbury Neighbourhood Unit which is being used as an example of live architecture in the Festival of Britain . The market name is being retained on the new site which is equipped with sites for stalls and lock - up shops for about 180 stall holders . Each pitch is fitted for electric light .
