Sioux in British Columbia After the late Indian War , a number of the Sioux , headed by the famous chief , Sitting Bull , crossed over the British border . Those Indians who had remained on American territory having in the meantime been pardoned , a US Commission crossed the frontier to persuade the refugees to follow the example of their penitent countrymen . 1877
