A US infantryman aims his rocket launcher at a Japanese pillbox on Corregidor , Manila Bay island fortress in the Philippines . The parachute hanging overhead is one of those used by the US paratroopers who landed on top of Corregidor to seize enemy strong points from the rear , while amphibious troops landed on the southern shore .
