This was Rubber Bones' London ' home' . London: The yard off London's Oxford Street , popular shopping centre in the West End, where Harold " Rubber Bones " Webb , the escaped Dartmoor prisoner was discovered . In the centre may be seen the stove over which he cooked his food and next to it the cart under which he slept . The yard was his home for two nights . Through the archway is Oxford Street . Webb escaped from Dartmoor when he squirmed down a hot air shaft , clamered over the prison wall abnd jumped a train to London. He was free for a week . When he was taken from the yard - which is used by barrow-boys to store their goods - Webb had enough of the cold outside world , and went quietly with the policemen to Wandsworth Jail . 26th November 1951
