Mr P L Pemberton, representing Sefi Pemberton and Company, bid ?,500, the highest offered, for the famous British Guiana one cent 1856 stamp, the only one known to exist, which was auctioned at Harmer Rooke's rooms at Arundel Street, Strand, London. The stamp was withdrawn at ?,500, but negotiations for the sale are in progress.
