John William Lucas - an Ilford (Essex) boy - has been dealt another blow in a long series of misfortunes He lost the use of his right arm after an accident at his first job - that of teaboy to workmen With his compensation money he bought a small cart and a chestnut pony and built up a profitable round as a greengrocer When he went to harness Tommy the pony he found that it had been kicked and its foreleg broken Lucas found his living gone Last week he spent his last penny to buy a greengrocer's shop and now with the pony destroyed he is unable to get supplies for the shop Photo shows John William Lucas beside the empty shafts of his useless cart September 26th 1935
